video series about NPCs awaiting Player interaction
Waiting for Player is a video series centered on non-player characters (NPCs) in video game worlds as they await for the Player to interact with them.
Spawned within a certain proximity to the Player, these NPCs are born with a defined behavior and looping idle animations hinting at lives outside of Player’s engagement with them. While they perform their actions in a loop, the Player seldom enters the frame. When they do, it’s often in chaotic and violent ways disrupting the tranquility.
Within these frames of indeterminate waiting, we get a glimpse at the rich interiority of these NPCs - artists performing for other NPCs, two NPC lovers locked in embrace, vendors carrying their wares, taking a smoke break. By re-centering the camera away from the Player to the NPC, we get a chance to view these virtual worlds through their eyes, however fleeting, before they despawn as the Player moves away from them.
